101.9 WKRP

WKRP-LP is a non-commercial, community radio station based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The station is owned and operated by Oak City Media, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit corporation.

Our call sign is an homage to "WKRP in Cincinnati," a popular television sitcom which aired on the CBS television network from 1978-82 that inspired a generation of people to enter the broadcasting industry.

"The Mighty Fine 101 Nine" is classified by the Federal Communications Commission as a low power FM ("LPFM") station. The LPFM service was created by Congress in 2000 in response to public pressure following a wave of commercial radio station consolidation. LPFM stations are restricted to a maximum effective radiated power output of 100 watts - enough to reach between 4 and 10 miles from our transmitter, depending on local terrain.

From the day we applied for the station's construction permit (October 15, 2013) through the day we signed on (November 30, 2015) right up to today, we have had an interest in serving as an outlet for those interested in creating, producing, and delivering consistent, broadcast quality content to the people of North Carolina's capital city.
